Decriminalization of abortion in Argentina
Hi! Today I’m going to write about something that happened last week in Argentina, this country took the first step towards decriminalizing abortion. On June 14, the lower house of Congress approved a bill that would legalize abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. The bill was approved by 129 votes to 123 and it will now go to the Senate. Argentine President Mauricio Macri said he will sign it if approved, even though he is personally opposed to the proposal. Mariela Belski, Executive Director of Amnesty International Argentina said: “New legislation could end a vicious circle where women have no option but to risk their lives, their health, and their freedom if they are sent to prison.
